Give and Go Cycle
The give and go run as a continuity offense. After every pass and cut the next player fills the vacated spot, so the action cycles around the perimeter and each player rotates through passing, cutting, and filling without the offense ever resetting.
Instructions
- 1Space five players around the perimeter with the ball at the top of the key
- 2Pass to a wing and cut hard to the basket, looking for the return pass all the way through
- 3If the return pass isn't there, clear through to the opposite corner
- 4The next player in line fills the spot the cutter just vacated
- 5The new ball handler runs the same give and go with the next player around the horn
- 6Keep the cycle running so every player rotates through all five spots
- 7Add live defenders once the spacing and timing are automatic
Pro Tips
- Change speed on the cut - a hard first step after a slow setup is what beats the defender
- Cut across the defender's face when they turn their head to watch the ball
- Fill on time, not early; arriving before the cutter clears crowds the spacing
- The passer should show a target hand so the cutter knows the return pass is live
- If the cycle stalls, the fill is usually late - fix the timing before adding defense
