Give and Go

Master the fundamental give and go play, a basic two-player action that creates scoring opportunities through quick passing and cutting. This drill focuses on timing, communication, and finishing at the rim.

Instructions

  1. 1Set up with a ball handler at the top of the key and a wing player on the wing
  2. 2The ball handler passes to the wing player
  3. 3The wing player runs to the backcourt (baseline area) to catch the pass
  4. 4After passing, the original ball handler immediately cuts towards the rim
  5. 5The wing player passes back to the cutting player
  6. 6The cutting player receives the pass and finishes with a layup
  7. 7Practice both sides of the court and switch roles

Pro Tips

  • The initial pass should be crisp and on target
  • The wing player must run to the backcourt immediately after receiving the pass
  • The ball handler should cut as soon as the pass is made - timing is crucial
  • Keep your eyes up to see the cutting player and make the return pass
  • The cutting player should cut hard and directly to the rim
  • Focus on catching the pass in stride and finishing strong at the basket
  • Communication between players helps ensure proper timing
