Hexa-Pass
Develop quick passing skills and the fundamental 'pass and move' concept with this dynamic hexagonal passing drill. Six players work together in a continuous cycle of passing and movement, improving court awareness, passing accuracy, and understanding of spacing. The drill duration varies based on player level.
Instructions
- 1Position 6 players in a hexagon shape spread out across the floor
- 2Have two balls start at opposite positions in the hexagon (players across from each other)
- 3On the signal, both players with balls simultaneously pass to the player on their right
- 4Immediately after passing, the passer runs to exchange positions with the player across from them
- 5The cycle continues: receive, pass right, move across
- 6Players continue passing to the right and exchanging positions across
- 7Keep the drill moving at a fast pace
- 8Continue for a set amount of time based on player level:
- 9 Beginner: 30 seconds - 1 minute
- 10 Intermediate: 1-2 minutes
- 11 Advanced: 2-3 minutes
- 12Focus on crisp, accurate passes and quick movement
Pro Tips
- Make quick, sharp passes - don't hold the ball
- Pass with your fingertips for better control and accuracy
- Keep your head up to see the whole hexagon
- Move immediately after passing - don't wait or watch
- Run hard when exchanging positions - it builds conditioning
- Communicate with teammates about timing and position
- Keep both balls moving at the same pace
- Maintain proper spacing in the hexagon throughout
- Focus on catching and passing in one fluid motion
- Practice different types of passes: chest pass, bounce pass
- For advanced players, add no-look passes or behind-the-back passes
- Stay focused and alert - know where the ball is and where you need to be
- If a pass is dropped, quickly retrieve and continue the drill
