Pass The Circuit

Develop passing accuracy, court awareness, and finishing skills with this perimeter passing circuit. Players move around the half court perimeter passing and running to each cone, ending with a layup. The goal is to make 5 layups in 20 minutes. Adjust difficulty by moving cones inward (easier) or increasing target numbers (harder).

Instructions

  1. 1Set up 8 cones spread evenly across a half court perimeter
  2. 2Place one cone at each corner of the half court (4 corners)
  3. 3Place one cone at each midpoint: baseline midpoint, right sideline midpoint, left sideline midpoint, and top of key area
  4. 4Position players at the three cones on the baseline (left corner, baseline midpoint, right corner)
  5. 5The left-most player starts with the ball
  6. 6Players pass to the right and then run to the next available cone to the right
  7. 7The first player passes right and runs to the midpoint on the right sideline
  8. 8Continue passing right and running to the next available cone
  9. 9This cycle continues until the player at midcourt receives the ball
  10. 10The player at midcourt passes the ball to the midcourt corner
  11. 11After passing, the midcourt player runs toward the hoop
  12. 12The ball is then passed to the left sideline midpoint player
  13. 13The left sideline midpoint player passes the ball to the running player (from midcourt) as they go in for the layup
  14. 14The running player finishes with a layup
  15. 15After the layup, the next group begins the circuit
  16. 16Goal: Make 5 layups in 20 minutes

Pro Tips

  • Make quick, accurate passes - don't hold the ball
  • Pass with proper technique using your fingertips
  • Run hard to the next cone after passing
  • Keep your head up to see the whole court and your teammates
  • Present a good target with your hands when receiving passes
  • Catch and pass in one fluid motion when possible
  • For the layup finisher: run hard toward the basket and call for the ball
  • Finish strong at the rim with proper layup form
  • To make the drill easier: move the cones inward toward the center of the court, reducing running distance
  • To increase difficulty: raise the target numbers (e.g., 7 layups in 2:30 minutes, 10 layups in 5 minutes)
  • Maintain proper spacing throughout the drill
  • Communicate with teammates about timing and positioning
  • Stay focused and ready to receive the next pass
  • If a pass is missed or dropped, quickly retrieve and continue
  • Practice both left and right-handed layups for variety
